Entertaining Stories on Rural Living From the 1800s Through the 1900s

America has a wealth of interesting history, and this is especially true of Virginia and its surrounding states. Although growth has escalated over the past two decades, much local history remains preserved. On a smaller scale, individual families transfer stories, traditions, and heirlooms down from generation to generation. Despite preservation efforts, however, much local history is being lost as the older members in communities pass on.

Twenty years ago, Don became keenly aware of and concerned about the rapid loss of his own family history. He began many hours of research to not only save his family's past, but also to preserve the rural histories. A extensive collection of information slowly evolved and in November of 2008 Don published “A Legacy of Rural Virginia – Book I." In this work, notes from many interviews with elderly Virginia citizens and dozens of photographs were transformed into entertaining, yet factual stories of daily life over the past two centuries. Anyone, anywhere, who has an interest in American rural living of days gone by will enjoy these stories.

Book I and its follow-on Book II have been very well received by the reading public. Both works include dozens of non-fictional short stories.

Don's latest published work is the fictional book called, "The Storytellers." It includes short stories with titles such as:Gypsy DroversWhiskey DreamMurder on the River BottomThe Eviction NoticesA Last GiftThe Christmas Angel
and more. Just as his first two books, tales in "The Storytellers" are staged in American rural settings of the 1800s to early 1900s.

Don is currently working on a fourth book titled "Hard Times - Good Times."
